Congratulations goes out to Maira Ezerins of Middleboro, and Christopher Compagnone of Plymouth, the couple who are winners of the Plymouth Elegant Wedding’s “Operation Marry Me” contest.  Vendors from Plymouth Elegant Weddings gave away a wedding for up to 65 people to a couple who is in the armed services.

Maira and Christopher have been dating for two years and were engaged July 10, 2011.  Maira submitted a poem as part of her essay describing their relationship and the difficulty in dating and now being engaged to a member of the armed services.  Maira and Christopher will be married on September 11, 2012 at the Cold Spring Chapel in Plymouth with the reception taking place at the Radisson Hotel in Plymouth.

Fade Out

My nights hold endless dreams of you.
I lose myself in the dark to politics and wars that
I can’t understand, to battles that aren’t my fight,
I see myself, I stand with you there,
I am a witness to the strength of your heart.

The helicopter scatters the stars.
Whomp, whomp, the sky careens to black.
Sand coats your throat and silences your scream,
And for a moment you are lost.
You are the whole, you are swallowed.

Hands, eyes, and toes silently weep into the dirt,
Fervently wishing to once again be whole.
Your body falters and your eyes are glazed,
But you hear the call, the command,
To give more, to give your soul.

At last your ears can’t hear, your eyes can’t see,
Your heart thumps in your chest but you
Have no tears, just dust, and no words, just cries,
And this man you hold, his life you clutch,
And you close your eyes, and fade out.

The men being killed are your brothers.
The ghosts in the deep dark creeping, they are just men.
All are tied together by arbitrary actions of
Associations, institutions, corporations.
But now all has faded, the machine has failed
And we fade out again and fade out again-

Even if you don’t cry out.
Even if you suffer stoic and silent, a true emblem in this war,
I fear to see a man in my sleep, beaten by loss and misery.
If only my arms could stretch all the way past the sea,
You would feel the warmth again, the heat of life,
And maybe I could bring you back with me.

All you have now is your life and your fight,
But my tears, they’re for you, and my heart, it’s yours too.
Its beat, a beacon from home.
